    ATF Replacement Cycle?

From experience... If you drain from the drain plug, you'll get about 2.6 quarts out. If you then drop the transmission pan, you'll up that to about 3 quarts. My 1.8L 2010 has a real filter, not a screen, so I replaced it. It was laden with metal fines, and the magnets at the bottom of the...

    Replacing Front Rotors

Ceramic pads are standard on 10th Gen Corollas, and I prefer to replace pads with the same tech. Do a google image search on rotor cracks. They are quite common, and more common on drilled and/or slotted rotors. Go ahead and use them if you like, but I would make careful inspection part of the...

    Turn the Headlights OFF

Another option is to turn the car off, pull up the emergency brake handle exactly one notch, and then start the car. The lights will not turn on automatically (not sure about DRL but it works for non-DRL at night). The only downside is the parking brake chime will ring.

    2007 Corolla LE

Scott is right about how difficult it is to measure fuel economy in one tank. EPA uses 100% octane (the chemical, not the rating) fuel for tests, while the fuels we use change from station to station, season to season, and often have different Ethanol amounts that only average 10%. But physics...

    2007 Corolla LE

OK I have to admit I was wrong... 0w20 is what is used in 10th Gen Corolla's. For your 2007 it was 5w-30, with 0w-30 being an acceptable substitute. Nonetheless, oil MAY still explain your fuel economy issue. Lots of quick lube places and even dealers use whatever they have on hand for customer...

    2007 Corolla LE

Yes, I'm impressed by your picture, that's a lot of increase for just a bulb swap. As Scott pointed out, they typically don't last as long, but Amazon recently had a sale where they blew out of bunch of high performance $50 lamps for 9.99 and 12.99 a pair. I stocked up and even resold one pair...

    Auto A/C

It may be done either for energy conservation or humidity control. I'm thinking energy- running the compressor less means more MPG.

    Side Mirror LED's

That's a very reaching statement. It may be true in certain states, but I've "altered" busted modern truck, auto and trailer taillights by replacing them with DOT certified compliant lighting available at Wal-Mart and had nary a complaint about it from inspectors. It just has to match certain...

    New Tires

Markpark44, I drive about 130 miles of mostly interstate a day. I changed to Michelin Primacy MVX4 tires (stock 15" size) about 35K miles ago and I love them. They have an excellent balance of ride, handling, fuel economy, and wet weather traction. At 35K they still look new. When reading...

    AC Out

Or the bad compressor wore out the belt. Either way glad you got it fixed. HF

    2013 Corolla - Upgrade to 17" Wheels

The exceedingly low profile tires required to fit 17's under unmodified Corolla fenders put the rims closer to hazards than OEM 17's with taller tires. HF

    Brake Pads and Shoes

I'm all for DIY but for your first brake job you really should find a mentor to help. HF

    Best Random Orbital Buffer

I save the orbital for old oxidized paint where the good outweighs the possible harm. A 2013 shouldn't need it. Yes black is the hardest to keep clean looking. HF

    Cruise Control

I agree except with the "saves fuel" part. Even the most modest use of hypermiling techniques will save fuel versus using cc. HF

    2013 Corolla Crap Car!

In the days of rear wheel drive it worked well to put chains or studs on one axle- the rear, in poor traction the vehicle would understeer. High traction only on the front axle makes for oversteer, which means the rear end breaks loose first and the vehicle goes sideways or backwards. Without...
