1998 Toyota Corolla CE with very low miles

#1
My family is getting ready to sell a 1998 Toyota Corolla CE that is part of our mother's estate. The car is in central Maine, had only two elderly owners, it has always been garaged, is in very good condition, and has only 23,000 miles on it. I've asked at several dealerships but they could not give me a definite answer. We've checked Craigslist but have not seen any on there with such low miles. What is the approximate value of this vehicle?

I'm guessin about $3000-$3500. Kelley's Blue Book says $3100 in excellent condition. "elderly couple" and "garaged" with "23K" doesn't necessarily mean a cream puff. Maine winters can be brutal on a vehicle especially if they salt the roads. Also a lot of people elderly or not sometimes lack in their maintenance of a vehicle, but the good thing is Toyotas are tough.
For the most part though Good older cars Never bring what they are truely worth unless they are highly collectable.
If it were me and the car was in excellent condition and there was somebody in the family going to need a vehicle I'd sell it to them cheap.

Thanks Savoir-Faire. We haven't actively tried to sell it yet but have had 3 offers - 1200, 1600, and 2000. Your guestimate confirms that we might be able to get a little more for Mom's most prized possession so we can use the proceeds to help settle part of her estate.

To get the Most out of this car You should detail it (underneath and engine too). All new fluids, cheapest you can find, it's only for show. And if your state requires a safety inspection sticker a new or recent sticker will greatly help the sell. If it has any oil leaks wipe them off the car and move it to a spotless part of the driveway before showing it. One of the first things a potential buyer will ask you is "what is wrong with the car", you say "nothing as far as I know". If there is Any rust that shows That right there will be at Least $500 Off your asking price. Any excuse you have to make to a potential buyer If the car is as good as you posted will be $100 off your asking price in the back of your mind from a burned out light bulb to a torn seat. Battery posts Everything must be spotless, remember no excuses!
Ask 4 grand if you can follow this criteria and market it Now! The longer on the market the more people see it! You can Always come down in price never up.
I've sold 3 vehicles and believe it or not they sold threw the local newspaper but I do live in a metro area of 3 million. Yes I did use Craig's and did get response but the buyers came from the newspapers $5 ads. The newspaper did have online service.
Yeah, put some elbow grease into it and be patient, you'll get your price...if there's no rust or burnt transmission fluid!
Good Luck!

I bought a '01 Corolla LE on 10/14, it had 23k North Carolina car, bought it from a dealer paid $4k. It was so clean and detailed, the car was spotless,
didn't even hesitate on price. In a little over a year got the mileage to 42k and not a problem. I see the post was from March hope you got a great
price for your Corolla!

You have somewhat of the same problem as me. My 98 corolla has 51K on it and any of the valuation (Kelly and Edmunds) don't list a vehicle with really low mileage. The cars they do list have 175 to 200K miles on them and they are valued at $2900 to $3000. Unfortunately (as I've discovered) time takes it's toll on a vehicle and rubber components (seals, bushings, weather stripping) tend to dry-out and crack/leak as well as some plastic components break. If I were you, I'd ask around $3K for it (as is of course). Hopefully you'll have someone who knows what a great little car the corolla is and they'll go for it. Try listing on Craigs List, Amazon & Ebay. Best of luck to you and your family. (My sympathy to you as I recently lost my Mom too...real tough)
