Wheel/tire size

I recently bought a 96 Corolla. I'm planning on putting winter tires on my stock wheels but I need to find some wheels for summer. What is the biggest size I can fit on it? What bolt pattern? I would like the wheels to stick out a little wider then stock.i don't know much about the car, Any info at all would help.

Speaking solely from personal experience: on my 95 I used the same stock wheels with slightly wider (1") summer tires for awhile, which worked well except in slow hard turns (e.g. parking) I could hear a rubbing sound up front indicating I was exceeding practical limits. Eventually returned to manufacturer-suggested width.
