40-PLUS

#1
No not my age - that would be more accurately described as 50-plus.. On a 200 mile highway trip this past August I got 38.9 MPG(outstanding).. The posted speeds were 55 MPH for about half of that, 65 and 70 for the rest.. I had the cruise control set at 60, 68, and 72, respectfully.. I had some stretches where I went slightly faster, and several short bursts(approaching hills) going considerably faster.. In addition, I had the A/C going for about half of that time.. I have a 2013 "S" model w/manual transmission(all stock).. For the first part going 60ish I was getting over 41 MPG.. I normally get at least 31 in town.. Are some of you seeing similar results ?

Excellent mileage, we have one as well that we do 1500 mile trips and mileage sucks ,dueto the Automatic transmission Lol. Lease is finished in a few months

I did have two people point out to me that if I had gone the opposite direction(from Kennewick, WA to Madras, OR - instead of from Madras to Kennewick - like I did) that my MPG would not have been quite so good. Also, one guy suggested that the MPG indicator might be reading a little high. Next time I'll check the mileage both ways, and also check it with my trip odometer/fuel refill.

I`ve got a 2014 with the CVT tranny and running back and forth to work 15 miles each way mostly 45-50mph with 4-5 stops on the way I have gotten 39.5mpg average . I am a little skeptical of the guage readings . I don`t know how accurate they really are . But say it was off by 3mpg , I would still be pleased with that number. Just wish I knew for sure that the readings were dead on .

Your car has 13.5 gallons in the tank... Half marker is about 6.5 gallons. See how many miles it takes to the needle to go down to a place you can count

each reading differs, take about five tanks and add it all up, and that is your average?

one tank top it off, the next one where ever it stopped,, you get different results,.

we just finished trip, 1500 miles 33 mpg,28 mpg yeah we average under 30mpg Lol.

Ya - I got less than 28 mpg on my last tank(all city driving). I could creep it back closer to 31 if I fill up with ethanol-free gas(and a fuel additive , or two) ? It is available at one Conoco station across town. That would, however, be a spendy tank.
