2015 Corolla S CVT Trans

Looking for opinions on this new CVT. I just bought a 2015, not sure I like it at slow speeds. Seems to be great on the highway. Anyone had any trouble with it?

It's not that new... 15 years of Toyota/Aisin CVTs, 5 years for the current unit in Corolla (albeit only 3 years in North America).
There are haters, with ears trained to associate "power" (in a Corolla ?) with constant up/down rev (test numbers show the opposite).
There are worried, and Toyota's lack of precise maintenance chart doesn't help...
Personally I really like the smoothness and efficiency of those trans.
And, beside personal dislike and inevitable odd defect, we still have to see a surge/trend in complaints about reliability.
You'll probably see that the type of questions you ask generate polarized answers.

I am admiittedly a very conservative (Transation: Fuddy-Duddy...LOL) driver, but I have no complaints with the CVT on my 2014 LE Plus. Been on vacation trips from Texas to California and Florida. Impressed on how smooth and quite cruising on the Interstates at 65 MPH has been. Averaging 30 MPG in town ; 40 MPG on the trips.
CVT also seems the smoothest of any transmission I have ever owned. I have noticed no matter how high the speeds, the RPM's seem to stay in the low ranges.
The only complaint I have is the "Average MPG" on the dashboard computer readout is about 5% higher than the actual "miles on the odometer divided by the gallons on the pump equals the miles per gallon." I get readings over 41 MPG on the computer for those 40 MPG checks.

I too, have the '15 S CVT. I have not liked the way it shifts from day 1. I have had it for a year and a half since new. I guess I'm just old school and not used to how it shifts. Way too sluggish.
The only way I can remedy the issue is I leave it in Sport mode always except on the highway. My mpg takes a hit. But I'm ok with that.

What's to compare ? Beside some family resemblance Toyota wisely gave to the Corolla, we're talking decent quality econobox front-wheel drive 132hp L4 vs Lexus quality rear-wheel drive 184hp V6. And twice the price...

I thought you had to use the shift paddles in sport

Nope! You can be in sport mode and not use the paddles.

So I guess you'll be able to better distinguish when it's shifting correct?

I don't like the jerking motions it makes when going in reverse at somewhat higher speeds. It does rev up and is noising when accelerating. However once you are at a constant speed, it is smooth.

you can use the shift paddles in D eco, D Sport, and M. i only use them in the manual mode when i want both hands on the wheel and don't worry about shifting down when coming to a stop in manual mode it does it for you and it also shifts up at 6,000 rpm for you as well. i have no complaints other that the low torque, i want to invest in a supercharger to have fun when my warranty goes out.

My only complaint is about the newer Toyota transmission is No Dip Stick.
I like to change the oil in the pan every 30000 miles. Easy job 4 qts. Not any more No Dip Stick.
Now, locate fill plug, have IR temperature monitor, drain pan, reinstall plug, add oil till it pours out tranny tube, have your Allen key ready, start vehicle, monitor tranny temp, at 115 tighten plug tube. It was easy now it's a pain.
