Motor mounts?

#1
Hey everyone! New corolla owner, used 1999 LE and I'm looking everything over. It needs some work but seems in good shape for it's age. I had the vehicle off, and was just pushing the front end back and forth with my knees, and the motor seems to be moving wayy too much as it rocked. I don't remember this happening on any other vehicle. Have worked on hondas, blazers, yukon, mercuey...Should I check the motor mounts..and I am handy, but not a mechanic. So im going in blindly, but can tell when something is a miss. Thanks for any help and suggestions!!!

I am wondering the same thing. I have a 99 as well with 130k and there is an intermittent shudder in the front as well as a consistent clunk sometimes when I accelerate and suddenly let off the accelerator. The motor mounts visually look fine. I am not trying to hyjack your thread, but would be very interested in hearing about others' motor mount experiences.

Interesting. Do you guys have an automatic or a standard transmission?

I have the 5-speed standard, and when I am idling(in neutral), the car would shake a noticeable amount, and I have just replaced all the spark plugs so it shouldn't be misfiring(and the car drives fine with higher RPM). It gets really bad if the RPM gets too low, like when I first let out the clutch. I am thinking it may be the engine mount, but I am not sure.

Unfortunately I have an automatic... But yeah same when idle gets too low it looks ready to stall out..oil seems okay, fans are also running every 30 seconds.. Causing the idle to be higher..which may be battery issues.. I have so much going on I have yet to single out what is what. Also I'm guessing my brake booster is shot.. That is connected to the vacuum system.. So pushing in and letting off the brake causes the idle to change..sounds like that could be more your area..how are your brakes?? And Jman no worries about the post good at least ysomeone seen it lol
