Muffler talk...

Okay guys, so I have chosen to do my muffler as the first of many mods to my 2016 le. I have done some research and I ended up going with a magnaflow resonator and an OBX muffler from a video posted on here from a while ago. Long story short I went to the welding shop and the muffler won't fit. The OBX is center set on the inlet and outlet sides, while my car has offset on the inlet and outlet. Any recommendations on mufflers ? Not trying to spend a ton but I do want a nice sound. Also does anyone know the stock muffler specs for the 2016 le?

The Toyota TRD exhaust kit will fit perfectly. I personally love how it looks & sounds, but the price is ugly.

The one I've been looking at is the Borla Type S exhaust kit. It looks great, & sounds beefy. Doesn't sound like a fart can!

Either of these you could easily install yourself, as they fit the factory flange & hangers.

Yeah both of those look and sound amazing but they are way out of my ball park. Plus I already have a resonator so I'm just gonna have the shop knock out the stock one and replace it with the magnaflow and whatever muffler I end up getting.

Borla or TRD.
Save up, don't rush it.
It'll cost you the same in the long run with a lot of headaches along the way!
Just like my springs. I tried to save money by using a "friends" "mechanic" and it ended up costing me more than the dealer would have. Had to buy a few replacement parts from Toyota and a whole new tool set, plus the $460 that I paid the "mechanic".
BTW if anyone lives in VA and needs springs installed, come on over! We'll do it the right way, for free!

Yeah I guess you're right. My only thing is that I can't return the muffler so that right there is a wash, on top of the fact that I already have the magnapack so I might as well get the one part that will complete it all. But honestly saving up for a Borla or Trd wouldn't take that long.

I have to agree with C.D. You could always eBay those parts, or post them here. ;) I just got new wheels & tires, so I'm right there with you on saving up. My next upgrade will actually be an amp, so I can finally put my speakers in!

First of all, ignore the guy telling you it wont fit. I basically mounted the same muffler as the OBX, in a Magnaflow version. It is center in/center out. The installer called me to say it wouldnt go for the same reasons. (the offset factory muffler). I assured him it would fit as I had seen several people already perform this sway. There is an ever so slight (barely noticeable) slant to the muffler when installed. It will work. My S is proof...

Could you send a pic? I've been looking over the stock exhaust setup, and idk it's looking a little spooky over here. I know it's probably just me being paranoid but I want to be 100% sure. Because my fear is that they cut the stock muffler off and go to put the OBX on and it won't fit at all, and then I'm beat until I get another muffler.

I would love to...I've been struggling trying to post on this forum. I've done one somewhat successfully and for the life of me can't seam to repeat it...Take it on faith...Lol...The muffler fits. If your installer says otherwise, seek out a different installer.

If they can't fit the OBX muffler on have them just weld the stock muffler back on ! They just cut the pipe to remove it not the muffler. A good installer will be able to bend pipe to match your offset.

I have a Cherrybomb Extreme on mine. Basically cut off the muffler, welded pipe and it sounds pretty good in my opinion. Doesn't sound like the "typical ricer"

I just installed the borla type S muffler. My uncle helped me and did it with one JACK in my garage and some elbow grease. AMAZING SOUND. I no longer have a gas efficient car because I am hitting the gas every chance I get just to hear the exhaust. The sound is DEEP and LOW but not excessive or loud at idle and has a controlled sound range through the RPM's. I WISH i had a manual transmission to hear some downshifts. Best price i found was autoaccessorygarage. Fast shipping. Also, it looks great on vehicle. I kept old muffler for resale if necessary or if i trade in car. I'm keeping all old parts. BORLA is awesome!!! The hat they included is meant for a giant head though so I gave that to my uncle. Highly recommend. TRD is probably the only other great contender but to me the price was the deciding factor.

I have zero popping with my Magnaflow exhaust...Did you eliminate the resonators? Or add an aftermarket intake?? Mine decelerates , excelerates , and idles without any odd sound

Just the bolt on TRD exhaust. No other mods to the exhaust. But I have a HPS short ram intake!!!!! Hahahahaha
I'm only kidding.
It made the popping sound with just the exhaust. Try in a low gear, get the RMP's up and then let off the gas. Should pop.

Lol...Sorry, it doesn't ...At any RPM or speed...Now I have never redlined it and held it there, haha.....Maybe the TRD is designed that way? I can't give reason.
