Fuel consumption

#1
Just bought a mates 2000 corolla auto off her. She's had it since new and only done 57000ks. Its in phenomenal condition. I have joked for years about buying it off her and having recently totalled my previous car coinciding with her wanting to sell it, great deal for me. Anyway raving about nearly 20 year old car aside, been mighty surprised about the petrol mileage I'm getting. 25l of 95 fuel had only done 140kms. That's all stop start urban driving and just pootling about but seems pretty rubbish to me compared to my previous car. Are my expectations from an old car too high? I would expect far better on a long freeway journey of course.
