I bought a 2018 Corolla 8 months ago and have 2,500 miles. Before I would get oil change every 8 months. Can I really do a year on full synthetic.

That's very low miles in 8 months. Do you do a lot of short trips? According to the manual, short trips qualify for extreme conditions and Toyota recommends 5000 mile oil change intervals.

I change my oil at 10,000 mile intervals, per the instructions in the owner's manual. I drive about 26,000 per year, so it doesn't take very long to hit the 10,000 mile mark...

I have the 2018 Corolla LE (love it today as much if not more than the day I bought it!!!) and have driven about 5700 miles since last September's synthetic OW-20 oil change and am planning an upcoming trip of about 1500 total miles.

Should I get an oil change anyway or do I really have 10,000 miles and a year or so between changes?
The car has primarily done a lot of tiny trips around town and not much highway driving at all in that time.

For me:

Oil & Filter are changed, one can change out the filter every other, wit the filter so cheap we simply just change it out without a blink of an eye. If I were near my changes I start osay when will the next time I get to the change, the weather etc.. So you are at 5700 mi. and got 1500 mi. you still have 3K mi to go. I not worry about changing till then. My last change was before our trip and my next change is about 4K later so I am not worried for me when I near it if over by 1K or under.

OW16 will go in or OW20 as OW-16 is called for. I may pick up soon OW16 will see.

Avalanche , If it were my car I would change it. A lot of stop and go and city driving is harder on the oil then highway driving. I change mine around 5-6 K miles every time . I play it safe to keep the car in fine shape . I do all my own oil changes with oil bought at Walmart. So it`s not all that expensive to change. I rather play safe than sorry.

Thanks for your input, both of you. I decided I'm taking her in tomorrow since the tires need to be rotated anyway, and might as well get the oil changed while I'm there. It is strange how at least my Toyota dealership (I have a 4Runner too) will still put their reminder stickers at the 5k-mile/6-month intervals even though the service advisors generally say it is okay to run the oil longer, and of course the vehicles themselves "warn" you after 5k miles automatically that maintenance is needed. Whatever it takes to get you back in the dealership I guess?!

there was as an investigation done here in Canada, several different dealers and brands, on an news channel. The advice given by service advisors generally is quite different than what the manual says. After the service advisor would give a long list of things to do, it was compared to what the owners manual says. They do try to get you in as much as possible because they make mucho money on the upsell of things on a service visit. Not much profit on an oil change, as example, but while you are there, hey you need this, time to change this fluid, and this, and that.. to drive up profits. for years now I have not been to the dealer, I change my own oil, follow the manual. most fluids I can do myself.
