2019 Corolla SE radio issue

#1
I have a 2019 Toyota Corolla SE, and I use a usb flash drive to put mp3s on. I put whole albums on the flash drive from artists. I pick to play an artist, then click all songs and random play. Say there are 80 songs in my playlist. Before I get to the end of the 80 songs, the radio switches from that artist, to the one alphabetically on the top of the list. I believe this to be not an issue with my flash drive, but with the way the radio handles playing mp3s. Anyone else having this issue?

Thanks,
Mark

Normally, this would happen upon starting the car, when the head unit hasn't finished the inventory of the key (which can take a few minutes, event if it's always the same drive time after time) : playing current song than go to the beginning. If it happens randomly at anytime, I have no idea.

Actually when i turn the car off....then when i turn it back on, it comes back to the place in the song i was on before. This is normal behavior. However sometimes I'll just be listening to my playlist, and it'll skip to the alpha beginning of my artists. And I know I haven't come to the end of my playlist yet, as there were 4 hrs of songs or something it should have played. I believe the firmware needs an update to fix this, but so far noone seems to have an answer to what's going on.

Yes. Note that if that song isn't long enough for the head unit to make inventory, it will go to he beginning of the list.

I doubt it. A firmware update comes if an issue common to all units is discovered. Your situation is particular

Just a thought: how are your files organised on the drive. Do you have folders ? Are the IDtag all correct (for instance, "Mr Song" and "Mr. Song" wont be recognize as related by any system).

I dont follow you, please explain more.

I don't think my situation is particular. I highly doubt Toyota tested every phone, every flash drive, every combo of devices and file types before releasing the radio. I believe I could take my flash drive, in any 2019 corolla SE and have the same issue. Whereas I bet if I put it into a different car, like maybe a Camry I wouldn't have these issues.

They are in folders, within folders. In other words... I have discographies on my drive. So it's like /Metallica/Metallica - 1997 - Reload/01 - Fuel.mp3 = artist/album/song

I think all ids are good. Like I eluded to before, the radio will tell me how many songs are in the playlist its randomizing and playing, and it never gets through all of them before switching artists to the alphabetically first one. Sometimes at the end of a song, as if it were done with the playlist, it will change. Sometimes its when the car gets turned off, the next time you start it it will be on the wrong artist.

The problem can only be the radio firmware is wrong and they all screw up, or my radio is screwed up, or something i did to/on this flash drive is screwed up. I'd like to figure out which one it is. As the problem happens randomly, and on different songs, it's hard to pin down where the problem is, and the dealership certainly doesn't want to spend there time on figuring it out. I was hoping I could post here about it, and find out if other '19 Corolla SE owners are using a flash drive first of all, as apposed to like a cell phone, and have seen this issue.

Indeed. What I mean is Toyota don't provide regular update everytime a new phone or whatever material enter the market. The system is a done deal, The only updates are rather to solve bugs forgot in the original firmware, not to make it evolve. Anyway, you may check for updates here https://securedp.toyota.com/download-app/downloadsToyota Good luck !

Oh! Here the thing. Upon start, a song is read (generally the one that was on the last time). Meanwhile, the head unit makes an inventory of what is on the drive (whether it’s a new drive or a drive that was already there – the head unit doesn’t remember). Let’s say it needs 60 sec. to do this inventory but the current song playing last only 55 sec. Therefore, the inventory isn’t completed yet when that song ends and the head unit isn’t ready yet to operate normally. By default, it then simply goes to the first song of the list. Only after inventory is completed is it ready to accept commands like “random”. (At least that’s the way my pre 2019 works). Annoying, I know…
