Bearing or CV Joint noice in my 03 Corolla

The car has 96,000 miles on it, I can't fault Toyota for the repairs, we live near Phoenix AZ, and the wife drove that car in city traffic all summer long for 12 years in 110*F weather. It was all for oil leaks in the engine, rack and pinion unit, and transmission (Probably because the heat...

Bearing or CV Joint noice in my 03 Corolla

Thanks guys, I am not particularly a Corolla fan Mr Palmer. I own one because I bought my wife a Honda Fit after selling my 09 Rav 4 in 2013. I inherited the Corolla after the Fit purchase. After $3500 Corolla repairs over a year or two I think the car is a local only car. I am retired so I...

Bearing or CV Joint noice in my 03 Corolla

I am hearing a rhythmic (but very slight) noise in my front end (I think). Sounds like a bearing to me. But could it be a CV joint problem? I started my working life as an auto mechanic, but very long ago in the 1960's decade. How much trouble is it to change the bearings in the front hubs? Can...

My 03 Corolla runs rough at idle

No codes, no CEL, 97000+ miles Went through Inspection which checks the codes with flying colors. It has been running rough for years truthfully.

My 03 Corolla runs rough at idle

No I have not changed intake Gaskets, it shakes worse when it is in reverse for some reason. And it shakes very little when the car is idling in neutral.

My 03 Corolla runs rough at idle

What could be the reason that my engine shakes roughly when it is idling when warmed up? It has been that way for some time. It is not shaking the car apart but it shakes the car a bit when idling in gear, Is this common?

Check Engine Light On - What Are the Possibilities?

A hundred fifty one bucks for the diagnostic and repair. Gas cap and some hose clamps, and the time on the machine. It had three fault codes on the repair order, and they took some time to find and fix them. All in all they did not hurt me too bad. Fingers crossed I can get a year or two outta...

Check Engine Light On - What Are the Possibilities?

Thanks, I am hoping they act like they usually do. They ain't cheap, but they do seem honest and also they do stand behind their work. If the diagnosis turns out to be a large dollar item, I will put off the repair, until I absolutely know for sure they got it right, by double checking with Auto...

Check Engine Light On - What Are the Possibilities?

They plugged in today, they say it is something to do with pollution, can't leave it there today. I have to take the car into Toyota for the passenger air bag recall tomorrow at 10:00 Am. The mechanic who did the repairs a few weeks back was leaving early and could not guarantee it would be done...

Check Engine Light On - What Are the Possibilities?

The service center that repaired my car a few weeks back is going to plug in at noon today. They are plugging in at no cost just to check if it is their fault.

Check Engine Light On - What Are the Possibilities?

I think the auto center is the most reliable of the three I went to to diagnose the problem. They took out the whole engine/trans assembly and sent the trans off to a re-builder for resealing. Watching them work for a little while I saw that the cost for the new rebuilt rack and pinion, the seal...

Check Engine Light On - What Are the Possibilities?

Check Engine light, what are the possibilities? Just got my 2003 Corolla back from a transmission reseal, while they were at it they put in a new front seal around the timing case cover somewhere, and a new rack and pinion assembly $2,600 plus a few bucks. Of course it may be related to the...

    2003 Corolla Struts Need Fixing

Turns out it is leaking oil from somewhere, not the struts, the local shop says it is the timing chain cover, the Toyota dealer says it is the head gasket. And now we only have one car till she decides on which one she wants, so it just has to leak on the rubber mats I put under it until we get...

    2003 Corolla Struts Need Fixing

Thanks both of you Here is my take. I sold my Toyota Rav 4 yesterday I got 13 hundred above high book in this area, I sold it to a nice lady and it was essentially a brand new car. My wife is in the process of picking out her new car, as I am taking her old Corolla and driving it myself. I...

    2003 Corolla Struts Need Fixing

Thanks I was once an auto mechanic, (long time ago) and in fact I was once the alignment guy at a Ford then a Chevy dealership, Back then we only did front end alignments but I do understand the suspension requirements on modern cars, and would go to my guy at the Toyota dealership near us. He...
