1998 Corolla - Drivers Door Won't Lock/Unlock With Button

My corolla has been in my family as long as I can remember. So when I turned 18 it was passed down to me. The only ways to lock and unlock the driver door is to unlock it with the key or pull up on the tab. But when I unlock it from the passenger side. I have to unlock the driver door with a key. So pretty much the power door locks don't work for that door. Except for when I press the unlock or lock button the tab moves a little bit but didn't unlock it. Any ideas on what's causing this?

Idk exactly what it could be but you can try what i tried it wont cost you much. I soaked the driver door lock (where you put the key in) with WD-40 i sprayed it completely inside and put the key in and turned it back and forth till the lock loosened and it worked. Now the door opens smoothly with the key and when i hit the lock/unlock button from either door.
