Hello, I just bought a 2000 corolla and today on my way to work halfway through my drive I put the car into 2nd gear and got a loud whine all the way trough it. I haven't taken it home yet so I'll update if it mysteriously goes away but it didn't sound like it was and gave me a good pit in my stomach. Here's a weird tidbit about the car's gears at the moment. 5th gear will not currently stay engaged due to the last cable wire being installed incorrectly. I don't have extensive car knowledge but I didn't think that would be causing the whine this morning. I was planning on replacing the cable wire but now I'm more concerned over this new issue. Has anyone experienced this whine only in 2nd before or have any advice where to begin?
