2004 timing chain

#1
my wife has a 04 corolla le. The timing chain is rattling like hell. I've already replaced the tensioner which didn't help. So at this point I know I'm gonna have to do a chain and guides. My question is has anyone done this? And if so is it possible to do in frame or do I need to pull the engine to do it?

Sorry to hear that but, You have a bit of work ahead of you !
how many miles on the LE, sounds like the timing belt its a bit stretch out, sometimes do to
trying to burn some tires or taking off SO fast !

It's about 215k. I know the chain is shot. I'm just hoping someone has already done one and can tell me how difficult it is to do in frame

215K miles, thats NOT bad @ all !
I own a 2002 Tacoma w 333K miles and still running like new !
1 PROUD TOYOTA OWNER !

I can only tell you that to do a timing chain, its NOT that EZ, but its NOT hard to do also.
If youre doing it your'e self, I just take it apart and learn and NOT go by what others have done and
confuse you or NOT give you the correct info.

Just make sure you have all the TOOLS and Parts needed to do the JOB,
Good LUCK and send us pictures !
