Hi, I have an 04 corrola that wont start after the oil filler cap was left off and it ran out of oil.
the car did start once after that. Now it will turn over but no kick.
Had the valve cover off to inspect the rods etc and everything is still ok in that respect. Compression on cylinders is good as well
I have heard some say there is a sensor that shuts engine down after running out of oil. but need to find out what sensor and where.

Any thoughts.
Thanks

With the engine still rotating, you sure dodged a very expensive bullet!

I have also seen modern engines that will not start unless they have adequate oil pressure in order to prevent serious engine damage. With one car I was working with, I had the same issues are you are experiencing and merely topping off the engine oil to the full mark on the dipstick and turning the key had the engine start right up.
