I have a 2005 XRS with a 6 speed. Just replaced driver's side CV axle. Axle failed and shot out the side of the shaft and put a hole in the side of trans case. The hole is about as big as a deck of cards. My question is, has this happened to anybody else? If so, what repairs did you do, short of replacing case/trans? Is JB Weld an option?
I have read about cleaning area really well and using clear Permatex RTV adhesive and a piece of sheet metal to cover the hole. Has anybody tried this and had any success with it? I am looking to make the repair for as cost effective as possible.
