2009 Corolla Struts and transmission issue

Hi everyone,
I have an '09 Corolla LE (automatic); 80,500 miles. Recently began having a bumpy shift while transitioning from 1st to 2nd gear. Dealership test drove my car and said I need to change my front struts to address the issue. They quoted $1,500 while another dealership quoted $750 .

I don't have any problems with my struts...no bouncing around or body rolls during turns, etc. No metallic / squeaking noises either. Not sure why the dealership is insisting on replacing the struts. I don't see how it would address the hard shifting transmission issue either.
Any suggestions / thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the fluid level of your tranny? No way should your struts be bad this early.
Thank you trlhiker. I agree with your point regarding the struts. I did the bounce test on them recently and they quickly dampen out any oscillations. I will check the level of the transmission fluid as well.
