2011 Corolla LE - Adding Exhaust Tip

I would like to add a exhaust tip to my corolla but it points toward the ground short of the back bummer. I want to have the exhaust pipe redone to have it pointed out the back. I asked the muffer shop yesterday and they said they would have to cut the bummer to do it. I would think you could go under the bummer to put in and it would look fine. If I did that would it cause fadding to the bummer. Thanks for the help
