21 & 31 blink codes

94, 1.6L, 242k miles, OBDI, code reader adapter doesn’t work 100%, used a paper clip to read out the above blink codes.
Symptoms: rough idle, stalls in drive, once at consistent speed runs well, limps from a complete stop, manual shifting seems to work slightly, some white smoke from exhaust with gassy odor
Thoughts?

Update: Replaced fuel filter, took it for a road test around the block, hesitant on acceleration but significantly more responsive, stalled out at last turn, changed spark plugs, spark plug #4 was coated with oil, going to replace valve cover and spark plug tube seals this weekend when I have the money and time to dedicate to it, next thing in the pipeline will be the distributor seal.

Ok, went to take of the valve cover and found that the hose connected to the positive crankcase ventilation had a small crack down the length of one end, also oil deposits were present. These gremlins are multiplying

Final diagnosis: blowing head gasket, I’m going to have dedicate an entire weekend to rectify this if it’s not already completely in the bone zone
