Differential Bearing Help

#1
hey guys, i have a 97 CE corolla with a 3 speed auto. The axles have a lot of play where they enter the diff. After talking to the dealer he informed me that the diff side bearings are bad about going out. My question is can i replace these bearings with the trans in the car? There is a cover that has to be removed to access the diff and i dont know if there is enough clearance to remove everything. If anyone has done this job i would appreciate all the help i can get, thanks!!!

Don't know the answer to your question, sorry. But how did this expensive damage occur? Does the car have the original gear lube in the differential or was it changed and if so, to what?

You have to press the new bearing from the inside in the case. So you have to get the trans from the car (removing first the axles) and dismantle the housing. Normally I job for a very well trained pro.
