I Need A Second Opinion

#1
I just got my 2007 corolla dealer after its 170,000 kilometer service. The service tech pointed out that "The rear toe adjustment is seized and in order to unseize, the axle beam will need to be replaced." He went on to say that this was not a safety issue and that the only problem with not fixing it would be increased wear on the tires due to the alignment being out. Is this accurate?
Thanks for the help.

Yes. Whether it's correct or not is another issue. We have no way of knowing this over the Internet, as we can't inspect the car, of course.

An out of alignment condition not only wears out tires prematurely, but it also reduces fuel economy and the vehicle doesn't handle properly.

Have another auto center look at the car to verify that the toe adjustment is seized and wont come loose.

My pleasure. Strive to find a competent auto center that employs ASE Certified automotive technicians and not just a bunch of guys strolling around with greasy blue jeans and t-shirts.

From my personal knowledge of these later corollas the rear alignment is pretty much dead set from the factory on a solid beam. To adjust toe/camber in the rear of your car the hub needs to be unbolted and the correct shim put in place and the hub torqued back down to spec. From my own experience in the field it's brutally time consuming and frustrating. But can be done. Hope that helped
