Oil Leaking From Gearbox

#1
Hi first time poster, but 5th corolla and counting. my 2000 1.6GLE is on 230,000km and relegated to a runabout the clutch started juddering on takeoff soon after the last service, I thought it could wait until the next service as it was not a big problem, and it only really happened when cold or asked to climb a steep hill when starting off. Turns out it may be serious today I found oil pooled in the plastic consol beteen the front seats and it appears to have leaked out from under the rubber gear stick bootie, which probably means it is coming form either the gearbox or the back of the clutch housing. The fact it is pushing upwards past the gearstick worries me that it is boiling in the gear box or under pressure.

This is not my area of expertise and any suggestions could really be welcome before I confront a mechanic.

Thanks
