Radar detector

Not to sound sarcastic...Do these things still exist?? I remember Cobra from time past, I just truly thought they were a dead item.

As far as I've ever known, a radar detector will tell you the moment you get a ticket. A radar gun needs a fraction of a second to record your speed. So when your detector is going off, provided youre even on the same band, you have already been caught. Lol

They're illegal here in VA.
If I were to buy one, I would choose Passport.
But since we can't operate them legally, I don't even had a need for one.
Besides, there are plenty of speed cameras in MD and DC, where these won't help anyways.
Life in the DMV.

I bought the Escort Passport Max 2, it works great. The app is easy to read and the text and buttons are big. My only criticism is that the included suction cup mount is horrible. It broke and Escort sent me a replacement. Well, that one broke too. :(

What's the best radar detector to buy?
I've used a mid level escort for the past 4 years and can say for a fact it has saved me from a few tickets. A few of you are definitely correct that it is far from a guarantee you won't get popped but it is more of a notice than a lot of other options. It's saved me at low speeds when I was going to roll through stop signs, it's saved me around town on low speed limit roads, and a couple times on the interstate.

The escort live app is by far the biggest advantage though because it shows where other people ahead of you had their radar go off. If you combine this with the use of Waze you've definitely stacked the deck in your favor. Still ZERO guarantees though.

Long story short the radar is cheaper than a ticket

Check the 2019 list of the best radars on RRD.org. This is basically a website where people are collecting all reviews and create annual lists of the best products on the market. Check it, I bet you can find a suitable model for you!
Save your money. They’re phasing out traditional radar anyways.
Most states have gone to some kind of photo based radar system that can’t be detected.

Not really, I am not saying that these radars are going to eliminate the possibility to be caught, but at least it is some kind of protection. It is better to have one anyway :)
