Round 2...

#1
I summed this up briefly in the introduction section, but here it goes...
About 5 years ago my wife's Aunt was in desperate need of a car, so against my better judgement we gave her our spare, a 96 Prism. Meticulously kept clean, aftermarket muffler and intake and a color matched LED spoiler off a unremembered vehicle...

This brings me to a few days ago, rumor was they were going to junk it so I went over to see for myself. Mismatched flat tires, muffler in the trunk, no paint left on the body, both fenders dented, ignition missing, hole in the dashboard, headliner torn...you get the idea....
I grabbed the title and hoping to get it towed home this week, after one year of sitting she started right up and that lil 1.6 purred beautiful

People that neglect their vehicles end up spending a lot more money on repairs than people who maintain their vehicles.

That car is a wreck. What a crying shame.

Yea, I'm looking at tires, muffler and patching a hole in the exhaust. Found a dashboard and ignition for 50, and a color matched fender for 45. I'll rattle can the hood and roof for now until I can get a gallon of universal black to spray down. All said about 200 to get her road legal again. What got me is how great the motor sounded even after sitting a year...no smoke or tapping at all.

There is an important concept here. If something is given to someone at no cost to them, they may give it no value. And treat it as something worthless. I did the same thing (gave away a old but running car) when deploying in 2001, later the recipient's niece told me the vehicle needed brake work. A free car for the price of brake work!

They're there...unfortunately. who balances mags and doesn't know how to static balance so only the weights are on the inside? When I get a chance ill have them redone.

I've never had to many problems with that...
On a seperate note, this site seems to be lagging when it comes to my little 1.6. Do you know of any forums that might have more info for this motor along the lines of aftermarket parts or tips and tricks for getting a little more power?

I'm a B.F.Goodrich T/A Certified Tire Specialist and static balancing doesn't really do a very good job. It's just like the old bubble balance machines, very crude. I've static balanced tires and then to compare did the proper computer spin balance and the static balance always shows it to be out of balance. IMHO, it's not worth the cosmetic difference to wear out the tires prematurely.

As for more power, I can help you with that. Browse my website. Yea, don't know why I said static...never used one of those.lol. not what I meant. Don't remember the different terms for weights on the spin balancer. Dynamic, stick on...can't remember when you put it only on the inside.

Got around to making a rear deck since for some odd reason it was missing all together.lol. the 6x9's are close because I left room for 6's on the sides whenever I get em.

I had to grind down the edge of the calipers to make the rims fit after doing the pads and rotors.lol. changing harmonic balancer out tomorrow since mine is starting to seperate. also put a new exhaust pipe between my manifold and cat...the old one came off in 3 pieces. has alot more pep now that the engine has back pressure.

Everything is going great. Didn't do anything but drive her through the winter. May need to update the alternator, my lights dim when the bass hits. Found an identical parts car that was hit in the nose so I'll be swapping parts out soon.
