'Shift Lock' Click When Depress Brake Pedal

#1
Hey guys new user here..

I replaced the clock globe on my girlfriends 05 corolla (Australian model automatic) and stupidly removed the centre console before taking out the centre dash section (thinking it was part of the procedure, like many other cars)..

Anyway while attempting to remove the centre console I somehow did something to the shift lock mechanism inside the gear shift.. Now when the car is in P and the brake pedal is pressed down, a loud click is heard from inside the gear shift, which then lets me move the stick to drive or reverse, like normal..

If I press down the 'shift lock' button And hold it down, it somehow stops the click from being audible.. I tried to remove the gear shift cover, but with no luck, have been unable to find any guides on how to do this, I'm assuming this is the first step..

Can anyone point me in the right direction with removing this or advise whether that is the correct thing to do?? Any help is appreciated.

Cheers
