Tires 1991 With P175/80R-13

#1
I am fixing a low mileage 1991 Toyota Corrolla for my daughter. It was her Grandparents car that was seldom used for a decade and it has one 165/80R/13 tire where the rest are 155/80R/13 that seems to work just fine; I discover these small 13 inch tires are hard to come by with Mnfr.s I recognize. Internet searches give me better choices at slightly larger sizes.

Question: has anyone gone to 175/ 80R/13 on the car?

Thanx, egor

Those should fit on the rims, it's just a slightly wider tire. If I were you, I'd go up a size to 14" wheels (you can find steelies for super cheap) and you will have a bigger selection of tires.

The original equipment size is P155/80R-13. The optional size of P175/70R-13 can also be used. A P175/80R-13 size is much larger, will likely hit the car and cause the speedometer to be very inaccurate.

http://www.TireRack.com has two choices available in the P155/80R-13 size. One is the Firestone Winterforce winter tire and the other is the Kumho Solus KR21 all season -

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?tireIndex=0&autoMake=Toyota&autoYear=1991&autoModel=Corolla&autoModClar=&width=155%2F&ratio=0&diameter=13&sortCode=31100&skipOver=true&minSpeedRating=S&minLoadRating=S&tab=All

The P155/80R-13 size will provide superior fuel economy to the P175/70R-13 size, as it is a narrower tire and will have less rolling resistance. The P175/70R-13 size will provide better handling and ride but is the same height as the P155/80R-13 so the speedometer will read correctly.

http://www.TireRack.com lists nine different tires available in the P175/70R-13 size, with three winter tires and six all season tires -

If the car has been sitting for a very long time, the tires on it are likely dry-rotted and dangerous. Look at the sidewalls and tread area for cracking. It's likely all four tires will need to be replaced.

That'll be $20, thank you. :)
