The Lexus RX crossover is under an unintended acceleration recall by Lexus' parent business Toyota. The Lexus RX accidental acceleration recall is for the same issue affecting other Toyota automobiles, namely “sticky” floor mats which can get trapped under the acceleration pedal.

Recent acceleration recall such as Lexus

There was a flaw in the floor mats causing unintended acceleration in Toyota automobiles, which is why it launched a recall in 2011. Fires and vehicle rollovers are really the only things that are worse for an automaker than accidental acceleration on the subject of automotive defects. Audi almost went bankrupt in the 1990s when there were reports of unintended acceleration that were unfounded.

When the problem was found in Toyota, the United States government charged Toyota $48.8 million in fines. The floor mats would trap the acceleration pedal in the “open” position very easily. Toyota also had to do a recall of 7.8 million vehicles in the U.S., according to AutoBlog. There were 14 million vehicles worldwide which were affected by the defect.

Unintended acceleration is the problem with the Lexus RX too, which is why Toyota just announced a recall for the vehicle.

Known of issue for a while

The automaker has been aware of the problem for some time, as there had already been 3.8 million vehicles recalled in the U.S. for sticking floor mats by the end of 2009, according to Reuters. However, according to USA Today, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had logged some grievances of the issue in the Lexus RX and urged Toyota to add the crossover to the floor mat recall.

The floor mats in the 2010 Lexus RX also can “stick” and trigger unintended acceleration, which is an issue. There will be 22,200 RX450h models, the hybrid version, and 131,800 RX350 models incorporated in the recall. That totals to 154,000 vehicles added to the recall.

First things first

In case you are in a Toyota and encounter unintended acceleration, there are some things you should do. Do not panic. Start by pressing the brake firmly and putting the vehicle into neutral. Get off the road and come to a complete stop before attempting to get the floor map up.

Owners will be informed soon of the recall and will be directed to take their automobile to their nearest Toyota or Lexus service center. The floor mats will be replaced for free.

hi there!

I think they just do what really people need to know. And I could say that the said company is just doing what they think is right for the welfare of the car owners.A recall should implement as soon as possible to avoid car trouble or accident.Nowadays,we should really check a good quality car if we want a good investment.
