When should you put the first coat of wax on the car?

30 days after the paint has been applied, so if you ordered it special made, wait a couple weeks.

I think most cars are probably waxed before delivery as part of the PDI.

I'd probably wax it when it stops beading water - but anytime after 30 days of paint should be fine.

I'd like to make a strong recommendation to look into using a sealant and topping it with a wax after a few days/weeks.

Sealants make an actual chemical bond via polymers to your paint; they will far outlast any wax on the market.
