Engine Swap Question

#1
Hey guys,
So i have a 2000 corolla with a thrown rod and i want to swap the engine. I have found one in a 1999 are they the same engine? will it be a straight swap?

They should be the same 1.8L 4-cyl Engine Code [R] 1ZZ-FE engine. My online product application guide lists them as the same --> http://www.amsoil.com/mygarage/vehiclelookup.aspx?zo=349698

However, before spending your hard earned cash for the engine, I recommend contacting a Toyota dealers Parts Department and checking with them. They can tell you for certain.

I've never heard of a Toyota engine having internal problems before. How in blue blazes did a connecting rod get thrown? Was the engine run low on oil?

Im not sure if it was run low on oil. its a friends car. i am trying to help him get it back on the road but i am having a had time finding a decent engine under $1000 It seems that the engines 99 and older are priced better then engines 2000 and up so im hoping that the will work. thanks for the info!!

I'd guess that either the engine was run low on oil or it was pushed way too hard. Toyota engines are very reliable.
Another resource you can use to find a good used engine is --> http://www.Car-Part.com It's an Internet database of thousands of junkyards across the nation with millions of used parts available. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. Again, check with a Toyota dealership's Parts Department to make sure what year 1.8 litre engines are the same as in the 2000 Corolla. Good luck with it.

Do not put in a 99. Use 2000-2002 which should bolt in fine. The VVT feature in the 2000 and up is worth it alone. Low milage 2000-2002 go for $900 and up.
