95 Corolla oil pressure light on, won't start

#1
yesterday, i was Driving my car and it was running like a top. about 15 min. into the drive, the car shut off, it did not wimper out or lose power, it simply just shut off, with the oil pressure light on. I immediately checked the oil level (Naturally). But of course, the level was well within operating range. I then decided to try and restart the car to see if the engine had siezed, thankfully it had not. The day after i narrowed the problem down to the oil pressure sensor on the engine, i replaced the old one and still, the light is on, and the car continues to turn over but not start. If anyone has any ideas as to what the problem might be it would be greatly appreciated.

try disconnecting your 12 volt battery and see if that resets the system when you reconnect it.

If that sensor is performing a safety function by preventing the car from starting because it thinks you have no oil, bypass it. Disconnect your battery, add a jumper wire to the sensor and connect the battery just to see if it starts. You would have to be absolutely certain that it is a bad sensor and that the replacement you ordered was also a bad one. Maybe you can plug a code reader into it and get a fault code out of it. Also, Lar Smith has a good point- disconnecting the battery should erase the fault, but some computers really need zero battery power for a long, long time. Remove the red wire from your battery for a day or maybe two and then try to start it.
