Need help to solve my car problem

How much smoke are you talking about? Thin white smoke may just be some condensation, which is perfectly normal. Black smoke means you are running rich. XHP oil seems to be a bit too thick. Switch to something with 5W-30 or 10W-30 viscosity.

Awesome '99 Corolla sounding rough in 1st gear???

Congrats on fixing your car. Sounds like you also need other tune ups. Change your transmission fluid(AT or MT, btw?), and check your engine air filter. Also check your tire air pressure, alignment, etc.

    Lemon 99

Other than the fact that it burns more oil than my current RX-8(which has a perfect reason for burning oil), not really. Everything else(other than a damaged lock cylinder) works just as intended, and the standard transmission was definitely newbie-friendly. Then again, it's an 18-year-old car...

    2002 Corolla SE......BUY for $450? HELP!!

It's hard to repair since you'd have to rebuild the engine. It all boils down to whether or not if you can live with it. The extra oil won't eat into your budget too much, but it will be an annoyance for sure. Btw, AT or MT? An AT will have to be replaced far down the road when it starts to...

    Strange Issue: Warm engine stalling

For the cat, you will probably know if something is wrong with it. If it starts glowing after driving for a while, then it's plugged very badly. You can also use a laser temperature gun to see if the temperature out is higher than the temperature in. But yeah, if the OBD2 is telling you what...

    3rd gear lugging?

I have a 1999 5-speed. 2500~3000 RPM is a good shift point for the first two gears. The shift points in the Owner's Manual are fairly reasonable(24 km/h or 15 mph for 1-2, and 40 km/h or 25 mph for 2-3), so you can just use those. As for the third gear, that's very odd. Mine goes to ~1800 RPM...

Issue in 2002 - Drop in Gas Mileage

I got 4 tanks of gas so far, and I am averaging around 31.4 mpg with my 1999 5-speed standard. I do a bit of highway driving, like about 20% of the time. Not bad consider how sometimes I can drive a bit aggressively. To answer your question, I am guessing it's the winter gas. Winter also means...

Greetings from a 1999 Corolla Owner!

    1. VVTi wasn't available for 1999 Corollas. I have a 2008 Honda Accord V6 AT as my main car, and that's a great car. That said, it's well known that 6th Gen and early 7th Gen V6 AT Accords(1998~2004) had issues with their trannies. Modern Honda auto trannies are pretty great, and Honda's manual...

    Motor mounts?

Interesting. Do you guys have an automatic or a standard transmission? I have the 5-speed standard, and when I am idling(in neutral), the car would shake a noticeable amount, and I have just replaced all the spark plugs so it shouldn't be misfiring(and the car drives fine with higher RPM). It...

Where can I find the fasteners to hold the trunk liner on?

I know what you are talking about. They look like very oversized slot screws. Those things get loose quickly. You can go to a junkyard if they have an 8th Gen Corolla lying around, but I would imagine it won't be too expensive from the dealership, either. If you go to the dealership, they have...

Greetings from a 1999 Corolla Owner!

Yeah, I can pry the buttons out, but the light still wouldn't come on. I will see if I have time to take the buckle apart to fix the springs since I just put on my seat belt without even thinking about it. The car has ALL of the maintenance records since it was bought in 1999. The previous...

Greetings from a 1999 Corolla Owner!

My car doesn't have a keyless entry feature, so I am guessing there is no flashing light. According to the dealership, only the ones come with keyless entry have this flashing light. Just never comes on. I spray a bit of electrical connector into the buckle, but no luck. One weird thing about...

Greetings from a 1999 Corolla Owner!

Wow, I didn't check this forum for a while. Sorry about the hit and run, haha. Yep, I am from the Great White North, so everything in the car is metric(km and Celsius) I asked about the lock cylinder. The locksmith is willing to rekey it for CAN$40, but the dealership said the lock cylinder...

Greetings from a 1999 Corolla Owner!

Hi, everyone! Just purchased a 1999 Corolla CE with a 5-speed standard transmission as a car for me to practice the stick shift on since I started to like standard transmissions. The original owners were an old couple, and they maintained it relatively well with all the records, so the car is in...
