    Lets talk tires!

First off, this is a bang-for-the-buck thread, not a high-performance, racing tire thread May of us who have been around cars, and tinker with them, have our favorite brands. <--- when I was a kid, and spent a large portion of my time going sideways in those death machines, I preferred Cooper...

    Nokya LED NOK9618 Full Install

I noticed earlier this week that my driver-side fog was not bright at all. I put it up on ramps this morning, and maybe found the culprit. But I'm not sure how to resolve it. I'm a newbie with LED's, and I've been happy thus far. I unplugged the bulb after the ballast (is it called a ballast...

2005 Corolla vibrates at stop while in drive

Its fine to replace auto tranny fluid regularly. For a high mileage, 11 year old car, I would never change the trans fluid for the first time. Unless you want to buy a new trans in about 6 weeks.

Worst Case Scenarios for out 11th Gen Corollas

I generally drive these things till I can't drive them anymore (think: wreck). I've driven my two previous Corolla's almost a half-million miles combined, with no issues. So far so good with my 2016 Corolla Eco, but at 60K, I'm getting a LOT of suspension creaking that I've never experienced...

    How an Ignition Coil Works

Awesome write-up! I can't speak for Toyota, but when I lost a single coil on a 2001 Suzuki and a 2000 Taurus, each time the OBDII told me exactly which cylinder's coil had gone bad, and I was able to limp home. Granted, both times, the car ran like ass, like when an old school engine loses a...

    2010 wheels on 2016 Corolla

I have a spare (full size) steel wheel from my 2010 Corolla that I use as a spare on my 2016 Corolla. Same bolt pattern. But they are totally different sizes. My steel wheel is a 15" rim with a 195 tire. The alloys on my 2016 are 16" rims with 205 tires. Tire height appears to be the same...

    Resale value

When I see a bunch of maintenance that has been recently done to a car, I always think that the seller is trying to hide something. Add a new set of rims, and I would question why someone put so much money into a car just before selling it. Same with new tires/brakes. I can't imagine you'll...

    Would You Buy Another Toyota?

2005 Corolla LE, manual tranny, 175K miles, wrecked, no issues 2010 Corolla, manual tranny, 235K miles, wrecked 2015 4Runner, 20K, no issues so far 2016 Corolla LE Eco, 50K, no issues so far Until Toyota lets me down, I'll never buy another brand. I've never once, with any of my Toyota's, even...

    Anyone else have signal issues?

I noticed that when the rear defogger is on, sometimes (not always?) I lose all reception. It seems to have gotten better since I bought the car last year, though. I can't explain any of it.

    New member from MD

Welcome aboard. My 2010 had almost 250K when it was totaled earlier this year, so your car has plenty of life left! Great commuter cars.

    Spark Plugs??

With my 2010 Corolla, I changed plugs every 80K. Car easily made it to almost 250K before it was wrecked. That car called for iridium plugs, which were sometimes hard to find. I used Bosch Double Platinum plugs and never had a minutes trouble.

Loud noises from the engine on the alternator side

My guess would be the bearings in your alternator. It's fairly simple to remove the alternator. Locally, I have a company called Pasco that does free electrical inspection in-car, without removing anything. I know they are a chain, not sure if you have a similar vendor in your area.

What are these things on the door and where can I get them ?

I park in tight garages, so I always have them installed on my cars new, by the dealer. I try to work out a deal before signing the new car paperwork. The moulding color is always a perfect match to the car. When I bought my newest, 2016 Corolla, I noticed that there was a small scratch on the...

    Dash cams

This looks pretty slick, thanks for posting! How many hours can you record on a single 32GB SD card? And "Loop Recording" means it overwrites old footage?

Sweet job! Plasti-dip has come a long way over the last few years.

    Code scanner?

I have never had a need to try it on the Corolla. I had a 2005 Corolla (170K miles before it was totaled), 2010 Corolla (225K miles, kid drives it now) in addition to my 2016, and I have never thrown a SES light even one time on any of them. I'll try plugging it in this weekend, and make sure...

    Code scanner?

I bought this one years ago to work on my old Taurus. It's paid for itself many times over. I think they sell for like $13 on Ebay. Are there better scanners? Sure. But bang-for-the-buck, it can't be beat.

    Nokya LED NOK9618 Full Install

Thanks for the write-up. One of the fogs on my 2016 Corolla LE Eco burned out at less than 10K miles. None of the local stores carried H16 bulbs, so I decided to swap over to the LEDs. These are the NOK9718 bulbs. Very happy with them. First pic shows one of each. Driver is the stock fog...
