Its fine to replace auto tranny fluid regularly. For a high mileage, 11 year old car, I would never change the trans fluid for the first time. Unless you want to buy a new trans in about 6 weeks.

I noticed that when the rear defogger is on, sometimes (not always?) I lose all reception. It seems to have gotten better since I bought the car last year, though. I can't explain any of it.

Welcome aboard. My 2010 had almost 250K when it was totaled earlier this year, so your car has plenty of life left! Great commuter cars.

With my 2010 Corolla, I changed plugs every 80K. Car easily made it to almost 250K before it was wrecked. That car called for iridium plugs, which were sometimes hard to find. I used Bosch Double Platinum plugs and never had a minutes trouble.

My guess would be the bearings in your alternator. It's fairly simple to remove the alternator. Locally, I have a company called Pasco that does free electrical inspection in-car, without removing anything. I know they are a chain, not sure if you have a similar vendor in your area.

I bought this one years ago to work on my old Taurus. It's paid for itself many times over. I think they sell for like $13 on Ebay. Are there better scanners? Sure. But bang-for-the-buck, it can't be beat.
