    100,000 mile maintenance recommendations; 2013 Corolla S

There's a big difference between a "flush" and a "drain and fill." The flush that alot of shops push uses a pump that forces fluid through your tyranny, which like he said can push any crap suspended in your fluid into places it wouldn't flow before and break it. Drain and fill let's the...

Battery is flat after days later what I am doing to figure out:

I keep one of those small usb jump starters in my trunk after an incident where I left a headlight on about 10 years back. Came in handy a couple months ago after my alternator went out and killed my battery. It had just enough power to start it and I limped home revs high without even enough...

Check Engine light on and VSC light blinking

You need an OBD two code reader. You could probably borrow one from AutoZone for free, I think they let people borrow them to use in the parking lot. they’re also just 20 bucks and they are nice to have if you want to buy one. Either way read your code then choose to clear codes.

A/C only works in settings 1-3, not 4-5

I read it as his a/c only works for floor and dashboard, which is pretty weird. My selector doesn't even work anymore, cable is messed up and I'm too lazy to take the entire dash apart to put a new one. I leave it in position 1 and I just reach up below the dash in the passenger footwell and...

Corolla 2010 S best time to sell

I'd say a pretty good time will be once gas hits $3.50 a gallon again in a couple months with how the used car market seems to be right now. But then what would you replace it with? My running costs for my 09 XRS over the past 30k miles have been 6 Valvoline Maxlife synthetic oil changes...

    Programming a 2009 Corolla Key

Bought my spare key for my 2009 off Amazon. I ended up having a locksmith cut and program it because everyone else refused to just cut it so I could try to program it.

    100,000 mile maintenance recommendations; 2013 Corolla S

Thought transmission flushes were considered bad now? A drain and fill should be fine. I cheat with my 2.4 XRS and pump a gallon of ATF fluid out the dipstick with a hand pump annually (about 30k miles) and dump a gallon of Valvoline maxlife synthetic ATF back in. $20 of ATF and 1/2 an hour...

I'm thinking about getting a 2010 Toyota Corolla as my first car. Should I consider it?

Love mine, bought it with 125k, a red 2009 XRS with the 2.4L Camry engine so I have the "bad" 2AZ-FE that can get the oil burning problem. As far as I can tell it never got the TSB piston ring fix from the dealer. Its nearly to 150k miles and luckily never used more than a quart between the 5k...

2013 Toyota Corolla turns over but won't start

Fuel, air, spark. Its always one of those 3 stopping your car from starting. After trying to crank, check your plugs. If they are wet you have fuel, if dry you don't. I would say test for spark but since you don't know much about cars maybe look up a video and see if you are comfortable...

Advice on buying a 2010 Corolla

Sunroof rust. Check the rubber gasket around the sunroof glass for any bulges that indicate rust underneath. Make sure transmission fluid, brake fluid, and antifreeze was changed around 120k. I forget when exactly they're due. They made the 1.8 and 4 speed forever, there's really no big...

    Corolla expenses adding up

Not really, alternator is one of the easiest big engine parts to change since its up on top. Could have got a re-manufactured one for $140 from autozone, $180 if you wanted a lifetime warranty. Your cat probably just needed the 02 sensors shimmed with a washer. I would never go back to that...

Is the 2012 Corolla a good year and worth hanging on to? Thank you.

Probably, cause I see 10th gens driving around everywhere.

2013 seat upholstery replacement with 2014 covers?

Just to throw out another option, Clazzio makes some pretty nice leather seat covers. They're $600 for the leather insert versions, but they look like factory and don't require you to take off the old covers.

Buying. What to look out for?

Sunroof rust if it has one. Check the rubber seal for any bulges caused by corrosion, check the headliner for water marks. Seems a fairly widespread problem on these.

    Timing chain cover leakage

If there aren't spots in your driveway I'd say no. Toyota dealer tried that same thing on me when I brought mine in for a 120k service, saying it looked like my valve cover gasket was leaking, needed a radiator flush, brake fluid change, atf fluid flush, etc... Considering I had already...

    Question about oil consumption stories

Short answer, the base model has a 1.8L engine. These aren't affected by the oil consumption issue. The oil consumption issue is linked with the 2009 XR and XRS 2.4L 2AZ-FE engines. It doesn't affect every one so there's not really a way to tell without actually physically checking the oil...

    2010 corolla sunroof seal replacement

No clue what Toyota did on the sunroofs for our gen, the rust problem is so bad on them. Had a 15 year old Highlander with sunroof that was still like new. Wish I had seen that site, $220 is pretty good compared to the $450+ I was seeing. Seal was only $30 though plus $10 in paint though, so...

    2010 corolla sunroof seal replacement

I literally just had to do this. My seal was bulging out. Apparently rust is a big problem for our sunroofs. The bulges are likely from rust pushing the seal out. Hopefully you ordered the right part #63251-02060, I accidentally ordered the interior roof liner weather strip instead of the...
