1979 Corolla - How Far Can I Go?

Hi All,
New to the thread and a little green to Toyotas specifically, but a HYOOGE fan of the 79 Corolla, as it was my first car.
I have a chance to pick up a CLEAN little 2 door 4 speed, and I am wondering who here could guide me toward spending the right money to make it a competent, reliable, tight handling 200+hp car.

First things first. Make sure all the recommended maintenance items are done and give the car a good once over to see what else might need to be looked at repaired/replaced.

It's what I did to my 2005 Corolla (made up a list on what I need to fix, mostly minor repairs).
