I think swapping to a 2ZZ-GE (1.8 VVTL-i) is your best bet. There isn't much aftermarket for your engine that will make significant gains.

According to Wiki, you have the 7A-FE.

There is some aftermarket for them, but not nearly as much as the VVT-i (1ZZ-FE '98 - '08 and 2ZR-FE '09+) and VVTL-i (2ZZ-GE) engines.

Turns out, you don't have the VVT-i engine in yours.

Well keep in mind, a Corolla is an economy car. :)

However, it can be a lot of fun in its own way saving a ton of money with the high fuel economy a Corolla can deliver. :)
