2006 Toyota Corolla CE - Strut Replacement

#1
I had my front brake pad replaced on Friday and the mechanic told me that my struts were bad and needed replacement. They are not leaking and I only have 47.3K miles - purchased at 15.8K miles - bought the car in 2008. I do not drive my car hard and have the oil changed regularly. Everything I read about replacing the struts on this year and model state over 80K-100K miles. I do not feel any bouncing as I drive so I wonder if I have been provided good information. Oh, and I was also advised it would cost a total of $800 ($200 per strut).

Push down on each corner of the car. If it takes more than two bounces to stop they're shot. Otherwise you are fine (and I'm thinking you need a new mechanic. I've rallied cars and had shocks go longer than that).
