2009 Corolla - Help With Upgrades

I have an 09 corolla xrs manual 5 speed with 44000 miles. This is my first car of this type. I'm more of a truck and motorcycle guy. I am wanting to upgrade the engine such as new turbo exhaust air intake the whole 9 yards. Since this is my first build of this type I really do not know where to start. I don't have a lot of money to put into this build at one time so it's going to be a work in progress. what I want to know is where is the best place to start, I have seen a lot of different exhaust pipes out there what one would be the best?

Do you want an economy car, or a race car? Using an economy car as a race car doesn't tend to work out very well.
