2013 Corolla Crap Car!

#1
Hey everyone. Hope this doesn't get too long winded. 1st an update on the cruise control install. An absolute "piece of cake"! The entire time only took about 50 minutes, including the test drive. Watched the technician do the job. Don't even have to disconnect the battery. Air bag will not deploy. Very happy with the outcome. I supplied the parts. Now to the subject of my title. I have had my 2013 Corolla 1 month this weekend. And the more I have it and really scrutinize it, the more I realize what a piece of crap they are! And I haven't even made my 1st payment! I seriously don't think it will hold 2gether the full 5 years of payments!! I just don't see it. It's nothing more than a vacuum formed, or injection molded, color impregnated piece of plastic. It's definitely not worth the money Toyota gets for them. The top of the line Corolla S, shouldn't sell for anymore than $8000-$9000 including all taxes and any hidden garbage they attach to a sale!! And that's pushing the envelope at that price. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. And now onto gas mileage and miles you're able to go on a tank of gas. It's nowhere near what Toyota says. They say, right on the window sticker, that 3 gallons of gas you should get 100 miles, and another claim is approximately 356 miles to a tank. NOT HAPPENING!!! The miles per gallon is not equating out to the miles per tank. I'm driving 32 miles per day round trip to work, or 160 miles a week. I should be able to go 2 weeks between fillups. Again, NOT HAPPENING!! Maybe a week and a half at best. I keep it set at 70-75mph on I-95. So together with the products used to construct the vehicle and the misleading fuel claims, I'll have to keep it a year in order for my credit to be good, and then it's "SEE YA" Corolla. I was gonna invest in a nice set of wheels and do a seat cover interior by Clazzio, which is the best around, but the car, as far as I'm concerned, isn't worth the cost of the wheels and interior!! But at 71, that saying surely applies to me...."There's no fool like an old fool"!! Thanks for listening. Sincerely Jay

I'm very sorry you feel that way Jay, I don't think the 2013 Corollas are "crap", I have a 2013 Corolla S, I LOVE MY CAR, I'm very happy with the car, I got an excellent deal when I got the car.

Jay, any new car will not deliver the fuel economy advertised on the window sticker as the engine is not yet broken in and not delivering maximum power and fuel economy yet.
As for plastic cars, welcome to the tyrannical liberal/socialist/Democrat government dictated Corporate Average Fuel Economy Laws. It affects all cars.

Well when I left Hollywood Fl. on Sat. morning on my trip to Orland, gas was $3.73 and it cost me $37 to fill up. Used 7 gallons. When I left 2day, the girl I visited, let me use her Costo gas member ID, and it was only $3.44 in Orlando, and I put $24.85 in. My mpg up and back, keeping the car at a steady 75, with the occasional 80 mph sprints, was only 33-34 mpg!! And that was a straight 3 hour drive w/o stopping. I'm not at all happy with the car and cannot afford to get rid of it now, as I stated earlier. I'm glad you are enjoying yours. Perhaps if I had been able to get the LE or S, as you have, I might be happier too. Anyway, it's a mute point now. Take care Scott, we'll talk again. Sincerely Jay

Jay, et.al.: Don't expect to buy any Toyota and expect a Mercedes. People buy different brands and models to fit their pocketbook. And don't expect that fuel mileage readout on the instrument cluster to reflect actual mileage. It needs to be checked by dividing miles traveled by gallons purchased, full fill-up, and over the same or similar route, AC on . The EPA rating is a dream foisted upon the consumer by lobbyist-influenced lawmakers on the take.

I've had my 2011 corolla s for almost 2 yrs. I drive approximately 200 miles per day, three days per week. This is all highway. I set the cruise on 70mph and get 35mpg, which I find to be awesome! Rather than complain about gas mileage, try slowing down! I have had GMs, Fords and Saturns and this car is by far the best vehicle purchase I have ever made. And let me add, putting studded snow tires on the front, I can drive in areas 4x4 's have problems!

Installing studded winter tires only on the front of a vehicle is very, very dangerous. What happens is in inclement/snowy/slippery weather conditions, the vehicle grips the road better in the front than in the rear. Because of this what can happen when going around turns or down hills is the front of the vehicle holds the road great, but the rear doesn't and this can cause a very nasty, virtually impossible to control spin that can cause a crash. Always use four winter tires with a front wheel drive vehicle.

Maybe so, but I feel much safer knowing I have a grip in snowy conditions. I have own 4x4s and AWDs and haven't been able to go up and down our hills in icy conditions until this car. Studs may not be for everyone but I prefer them.

In the days of rear wheel drive it worked well to put chains or studs on one axle- the rear, in poor traction the vehicle would understeer.

High traction only on the front axle makes for oversteer, which means the rear end breaks loose first and the vehicle goes sideways or backwards. Without Rear wheel drive there is zero control (and very little with rwd).

You may be missing my point. Studded winter tires are perfectly fine. What isn't fine is using them only on the front wheels. This is very, very dangerous. With auto centers I have run, we are not even allowed to install studded winter tires only on the front due to the huge legal liability issues.

With a front wheel drive car using studded winter tires, it is critical to use them at all four wheel positions, front and rear. Life is too short to risk death by using only two studded winter tires on the front of a vehicle.

I dont think any of the models has anything to do with it, they are all the same engine... i have the "L" model and just bought it to commute from savannah to new orleans, well bought it last friday and dealer filled it up, saturday went from new orleans to pensacola, spent 2 nights and monday headed to savannah and got 410 miles doing 75-80 with a/c on, filled up halfway and im still with the same gas from 2 days ago... i get about 400miles to the tank filling up at 36-38 bucks.

@Jay, I wish you luck on your next vehicle. Before my Corolla, I've drove a Kia (talk about a piece of poop - noisy tin can oh I can go on) and lots of gas guzzlers (Ford, Dodge trucks which we still have one is my son's and the other is my husband's) my favorite cars were my '77 Chrysler Cordoba and '92 Grand Marquis (super quiet and a smooth ride) I drive about 50 miles a day in mostly stop and go traffic (I get about 263 miles on a tank of gas). Because I live in TX, we don't have normal seasons the A/C is on constantly. I'm tickled I don't have to gas up every 3-4 like I used to ugh and to fill the tank in the Dodge or the Ford would cost me $86+ (again every 3 to 4 days) Again, I truly which you well on your next purchase.

I realize that maybe you had no choice but get the corolla but what bugs me is why get a vehicle and rant and complain about it? Did you not know what the corolla was? did you not read any reviews on the vehicle? Why not get a used BMW or AUDI or a 20 year old vehicle. I test drove many cars as I was planning on a purchase in the future. I came across my 2013 Corolla S (I will admit it looks better the the CE) and the fact that it is a manual got my juices flowing lol. Seriously I was not interested in an automatic for several reasons. Point is I like the corolla, it is simple, functional, long lasting, and I LIKE the look of it. I drove the 2012 Ford Focus, nice car, busier inside and the door panels are as hard plastic as the corolla's, same with other interiors. IDK maybe it is just me but I am not going to trash the car I have cuz I will not buy a car that I would have reason to trash.

I'm in Dallas and getting almost 400 Miles per tank with in-town driving. I don't push the car hard and find it is, in general, a smooth reliable vehicle. I also use a bike (motorcycle) to commute so the Corolla doesn't get a ton of use so time will tell. I have a 2013 and at 3000 miles it's been a good little car. Just sold my 1993 Camry that I had only 3 things break in 20 yrs - driver window, radiator and one coil so I've been spoiled. Sold the Camry to my son to keep it in the family.

not sure how many it is exactly but I'm getting over 500 kms to a tank. I had a tank last me a few days short of two weeks of city driving. That is much more than my older car.
