Later today I'm going to be picking up my Corolla -- a 1995. I don't know yet if it has the 1.6L or 1.8L engine. It has a 5 speed manual.
The PO is getting rid of it because it failed smog for NOx here in CA. My first inclination is an EGR issue and/or carbon buildup in the cylinders, so I plan on taking apart the EGR system and also running some Seafoam through the engine.
I was curious for those of you who have to deal with smog if there are any other known emissions issues on these vehicles that can lead to NOx failures. I can get more information (mileage, engine, etc) later today when I go to pick the vehicle up.
