Does anyone know a way to get rust off of drum brakes?

Recently, I just bought 2012 Corolla S and I already see from behind the rim rust forming. Is there a way to safely remove the rust from the drum brakes? (Not WD-40 right?)

Yer talking about it's exterior surface ?

wire brush/sandpaper...
then clean it with alcohol or brake cleaner...
dry and repaint.

be sure to mask off the lug threads prior to painting.

Eye Protection!
Drill with a wire brush
or
Table grinder with a wire brush (drill held in vise)
or
Media blast
