My mum wont stop (gambling)

#1
Ive jsut had a huge argument with my mother after catching her at the pub gambling again, Im so angry with her as we have almost lost our family home two years ago, due to her gambling habbits. My siblings wont speak to her and still she hits the pokies.

Im 28 and she 61, she trys to maintain that its not a problem and that if it upsets me she wont go, but I know shes lying.

I really dont think I could go through another court case, due to theft for her addiction.

do I just walk away

I too have a mother that gambles but unlike you I have never really addressed it with her, she is 80 and has gambled for a number of years all her money and has done a reverse mortgage on her house and gambled that as well she was quite well off before she started and would have been comfortable for the rest of her life if she hadnt started gambling. She has only really got the National Super now and is finding it really hard to make ends meet. She wont admit that she is still gambling she has told my sister and myself she doesnt gamble anymore because she cant afford it but i know she does as she has been away this week so I had a wee nosey around her place and found her Visa that has many cash advances 100's of dollars worth. Once the visa is up to the limit and she cant even make the mininum payment (and this will be in the next month) i wonder what she will do?? The problem I have is that she puts the guilts on me about not being able to manage and the time is coming soon that she will ask to borrow money even though I do give her money each month. She lives alone and would pull the I am lonely card and its hard to reply to that. What also amazes me about her and I dont know whether this is the gambling but she has become a really unpleasant old women she has always been a bit intimidating but now she is just down right nasty.

I can certainly relate to just walking away because I would just love to do that.

Any similar stories would be helpful and what to do about it!!

I see that you don't like when someone is gambling. I think it depends on your psychological view of the situation (because I believe that you would like to gamble but society says that it is not a good thing). This is a problem which generates a lot of different problems. So if you want you can at least try it.. Personally I gamble on clubvip777.com since it has a good money withdrawal and you can receive the money whenever you want 24/7.. Basically it is a thing that might help ya..

Could you tell me some more information about it? Let’s talk in PM

This is a good example of how much better online computer games are than any gambling. My son plays Dota 2 and I am very happy about it. This is a great way to get adrenaline and communication. I know that he is in good company)) I often give him pro-players as an example (you can find here for match results). This was the beginning of a good career for them. That's it)

Compulsive gambling, also called gambling disorder, is the uncontrollable urge to keep gambling despite the toll it takes on your life. Gambling means that you're willing to risk something you value in the hope of getting something of even greater value. So if your mother doesn't take part from this category just let her play and have fun, otherwise she needs help and support. I have more than 10 years gambling and I am very adequate. Mostly I play online casinos, I just come home after work in the evening and relax in front of the PC.

It's better to be supportive and try to understand that we all have some form of an addiction. She needs you and my advice is to help her the only way you can: be there for her.

My brother had a very same problem as you, OP. And somehow my mom made him stop. She used a strange strategy. At first she forbade he to enter casino, but made for him an account at online casino instead. One of her friends gave her a website with the list of reliable online casinos so my brother won't be tricked if he actually won something. Mom gave my brother some money and reduced her "payments" day by day. It doesn't sound like a working method but it worked. Maybe it's my mom's gift of persuasion worked, I don't know. But my bro didn't gamble for 3 years since then.

That's strange story. BTW, thank you for sharing. I think I can use some of these casinos.
