Mysterious Misfire....not in park or idle

#1
I have a 1995 corolla dx, 4 cylinder, 1.8L.

It runs and revs up just fine and dandy in idle or park.

When I put it in Park or any other gear it stumbles like it's misfiring up until I get to about 40mph then it smooths out.

What are the usual culprits??

although this is a old thread , it should be pointed out that the distributor cap has to be in good condition . the gap between the cap terminals and the rotor button being too wide or dirty . will cause a stumble , just like the one described . that will drive you batty ,
