New Corolla With 1.4 D4D Engine

#1
Hello to all,

is 1.4 D4D engine too weak for new corolla? I was looking to all features of new corolla (Europe) and notice that our dealer has prepared really good offer with Luna package but with 1.4D4D engine. They say that 1.4 D4D is really economical, has very small fuel consumption, especially in 6th gear. On the other hand since weight of the car is only 1270 kg, they say this should be sufficient.

I don't know if anybody had a chance to drive this car with this particular engine and what is the experience.
How about speeding up and overtaking another car on the highway?

Thank you

I know the 1.8 manages to get the job done.

I wouldn't use the 1.4 if it has any less than 100 hp or 100 ft.-lb. torque, or hill climbing is going to suck.

Well, if you can, try and get a test drive of the car with the 1.4. If you think it is powerful enough, get it and if not, try the Corolla with the 1.6 or 1.8 engine.

Well test drive is usually up to 10 km and there is no chance to test uphill driving. That is why I asked this hoping there will be someone who has experience with this particular engine.
