Hello everyone. I am looking for some help...
I have a 2007 Toyota Corolla S (manual) and lately it has been a nightmare.

I have written up what has happened to this car over the past few months and I was hoping someone had the time to take a look and give me some suggestions on what the problem might be.

This might be a little long.

Thanks for the help in advance.

#1 cylinder misfired again.
Code was: P0301
Removed cylinder #1 coil. Removed cylinder #1 spark plug. It looked fine, reinstalled spark plug.
Installed original #4 ignition coil. The one I took out on 2/4/2013. Took back new #1 coil to Advanced Auto for a new one. Have not used this new one yet, since I am not sure why #1 coil went bad so fast.
Went only 2,634 miles before #1 coil went bad.

6/6/2013 103,319 miles
Front end alignment.

7/16/2013 104,498 miles
On way home from work, engine lost power. Car would not accelerate or maintain speed. Had to pull over, car towed to shop.
Codes were: P0606, P0607 and P0420
Shop replaced ECM( this is the 2nd new ECM, or the 3rd overall in this car).
** ECM was replaced with recall at 72,509 miles on 3/29/2011.

7/18/2013 104,510 miles
Driving car home had the same problem. Car would not maintain speed and could not accelerate. Had to pull over on the side of the highway. Shut engine off and waited 10 minutes and was able to drive the car back to the shop.

7/22/2013 104,550 miles
Shop was able to have the problem occur when they drove the car.
Both O2 sensors were replaced, with Toyota parts. They drove it and thought it was fixed.
Picked up car.

7/22/2013 104,550 miles
Engine light came on.
Code was: P0420, for the Cat Converter below threshold.

7/25/2013 104,719 miles
Had cat converter replaced. The one before the downstream O2 sensor.

7/31/2013 104,913 miles
Driving car home had the same problem. Car would not maintain speed and could not accelerate. Put car in neutral to coast down the hill. Entire car was shaking extremely bad. Had to back in gear and coast down hill to keep the engine running. At bottom of hill had to pull over. Shut the engine off and waited 9 minutes. Restarted the car and was able to drive about ¼ mile. The problem repeated, engine/car shaking drastically, had to pull over. Shut off car, waited about 12 minutes, was able to drive about 1.5 miles. Car is now in driveway. Going to shop tomorrow.

So the ECM has been replaced, again.
Both O2 sensors have been replaced.
Cat converter has been replaced…but the problem persists.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

L.F.
