OEM Daytime Running Lights - Worth The Price?

#1
Hey, found some supposed OEM Daytime Running Lights. I personally never saw them at ANY of the corolla's at the dealership I bought my corolla from. The dealership had HUNDREDS of Corolla's. Dealership is huge. Anyway, I added the link for the ebay page. Personally, I think its overpriced for some $20 DRLs, relays, some speaker wires, and a switch. The only question I would have is how to run the wires to the console for the switch. Let me know what you all think.

Don't see why they are factory when we already have DRL. Definitely not OEM. You have a CVT right? Aren't all of your console switches occupied by Sport Mode and TCS?

There is a free spot on the dashboard you could put it on, or you could forget the switch all together and have them on when ignition is on.

My stalk has a DRL option, it's odd, and I don't have the automatic headlights either.

Yeah, they put it in the dashboard (and oddly enough on the far right one which shouldn't be occupied, since that is how you remove that particular trim panel). They aren't my style, but they look neat, I'll admit ... price is a little stiff though...

Did you try e-mailing them? The output of the DRLs is probably equivalent to my reverse lights, so you'd still need headlights at night. As for the relay, most likely a generic 10A 4-prong relay that you could get for a few bucks at O'Reillys.

Gonna try to build the kit yourself? (I bet it could be done a lot cheaper...)

Serious, I thought my foglights were expensive. That kit shouldn't cost more than $150, tops. The parts can be bought individually for probably $60

Of course. I do plan on bulding it myself. These are the DRLs I bought. They might not look like anything special but they are so bright I cannot look at them straight on.

Those DRL are offered for the South East Toyota region (Ga, FL ect) and I have seen them and actually have taken a picture. I used I have an Audi S5 and I am telling you, those DRLs are super bright! If Toyota chooses them to install them on their special corollas, they had to be good!

Initial lights are $20 less here, with instructions and parts list - no relay that I can see: http://toyotaofmcdonoughparts.net/p...oyota-corolla-led-daytime-running-lights-2014

Toyota is either smart or cheap here -

If you add fog lights after the purchase, you get an on/off switch on the dash. Cheaper and easier than replacing the stalk and removing the airbag and the clock spring, but it also somewhat tells the world "This car didn't come with fogs/DRL's and the owner added them."

My stalk has a DRL option, it's odd, and I don't have the automatic headlights either.
Toyota can't keep USA owners happy - Hyundai has the same problem (and a less elegant solution).

In Canada, DRL's are required and can't be disabled. (And they have the autoheadlight option).

In the USA - half the people want and like DRL's and half the people are worried about the bulbs burning out sooner and draining the battery and forgetting to turn on the headlights b/c the DRL's are already on.

Toyota's solution was to add an OFF and DRL position on the stalk, so you have OFF, DRL, Parking, and Headlight positions but no auto. In DRL, the lights turn off with the ignition, so if you want DRL's, you can leave the switch in this position.

Hyundai has changed a few times, but typically, they have DRL OFF (all off), parking lights (which also has DRL's - and which all turn off with the ignition), headlights on, and AUTO positions. (In some states, it is illegal to run parking lights without the headlights when the vehicle is in motion, so Hyundai's solution isn't quite as good - but then again, I don't like AUTO headlights, so I'm likely biased.
