Protect A/C Condenser on 2020 Corolla

#1
I wanted to share what I did to protect the A/C condenser on my 2020 Corolla LE. The grill has large honeycomb openings that leaves the A/C condenser vulnerable to bugs clogging the fins and more concerning is a rock entering and damaging the condenser (puncturing the condenser and creating a leak). I have an easy and inexpensive preventive measure that you can do to help protect the A/C condenser...and I think it looks like it should be there.

My addition was black plastic gutter guard (Frost King) zip tied to the opening of the grill. Total material cost (gutter guard and zip ties) is under $5. The gutter guard came in a 20' roll, so I have plenty left to repair if the existing gets damaged from rocks. And well, zip ties are pennies apiece, I used 10 total. I attached a photo to show everyone. I may be overly cautious, but I rather spend $5 now then $500 to replace the condenser in the future. Hope everyone finds this helpful.

PS I am new to this forum, so if there is better place to post this, let me know.

I made something similar for my 2015, but mounted mine in front of the condenser where it's not visible. I used thick bug screen. It has larger size mesh than standard screen material. Don't want to impede air flow. Made a perimeter border using Gorilla duct tape. Mounted it from the four corners. It's held up well. Cheap insurance against rock damage for sure.

I agree, it's all about protecting the a/c condenser. I only went on the outside of the grill area because it was a new car, and did not want to mess with taking things apart.
