Purchasing Corolla, Building, Mods, Best Base?

I am in the market for a new car and a multitude of reports have directed me towards the Corolla for MPGs and reliability mostly. I like a sporty feel which I recognize this is not but this car will be my wife's daily driver. I've determined I will put the rear sway bar on it for increased handling but for a price/performance comparison the LE Plus seems like the best option. I was also looking for remote start but I don't see any clear specs stating that any of the models have that.

Any words of advice?

Welcome! I heard MonkeyWrench racing is making engine parts for the 2ZR-FE(engine in the 10th and 11th gen Corolla's). For suspension, get lowering springs and better tires and you will love your Corolla!
