redlined, now engine is rough/loud

#1
Well as my username suggests, I made a big mistake.

I hit redline at 70mph in my 9th gen automatic. Bad stuff seems to have happened.

I was accelerating with overdrive off and had shifted from "D" to "2". Just being stupid....I don't normally abuse the car like this I was just seeing if it had any guts basically.

So the tach hits redline, I immediately heard a "bzzt" (not that loud but noticeable) and immediately let off the gas and decelerate to the next highway exit.

Now, the engine runs very loud with a pulsating sound if it's accelerating in the least. While idling it's quiet but does rumble a little bit. I didn't push it to see if it has lost power.

The only good thing I guess is that the check engine light never came on.

Any ideas what could've happened?

you can float the valves with valve springs having that many miles on them, not wise to say the least.

old saying "if you're going to get on it.... you're going to get under it"
