Revs slow to drop

#1
Hey there,

I have a 2004 RunX 1.4 RS. If i'm in neutral and I rev the engine, the revs stay high for a bit after i've released the pedal. Like there is a delay between me releasing the pedal and the engine realising what the heck is going on.

Any suggestions? Could it be the throttle cable? Or the spring?

Any advice is appreciated

Cheers

Can also be the idle air control sensor. I'd get a membership to the Toyota Information Service, TIS, they have lots of technical bulletins about mechanical gremlins like that. If it is cold when it does that it can also be the warm up sequence - your car will idle high to warm up when first turned on unless you lower the rpms by putting it in gear.
