Starting engine

#1
Just found this out recently when troubleshooting my 2009 Corolla S "hard start" restarting after being off for a couple of hours. When starting, all you have to do is rock the ignition key and then let it go (as opposed to holding the key on start, like the older vehicles) I thought that I had an ignition switch problem but found out that newer vehicles have a start relay much like the latest push to start button. The same system is on my 2006 Tundra. Thinking of some is that holding the key to the "start" (all the way over) could possibly cause the start relay to stick thereby causing the starter to remain engaged. Anyone else aware of this or am I still in the 70's?

Our 2013 Corolla S had a no start when it was about a year or two in use.
Cranked just fine with the key, just wouldn't catch.
A post suggested leaving battery in- cabled for a couple of hours.
I did this and the start was very hard to accomplish....had to really press hard on gas pedal...
Finally it began to run just fine .
A one time occurrence.
